Year 3

Thank you for visiting our page and welcome to Year 3!

Your Year 3 teachers are Mrs Jackman (3J and Team Leader), Mrs Golding (3J), Mrs Major (3M) and Mr Ballantine (3B). Our teachers are ably supported by teaching assistants Mrs Forde, Mrs Sheldrake and Mrs Moore.

Moving to the first junior year is a big change for infant children, but we are delighted to see our children have confidently made the transition into junior school life.

Homework for Year 3 will be issued on a Wednesday with the expectation of completed work to be returned by the following Monday.

We hope you will find the information featured on this page useful. However, if you do have any questions, please send an email to Each teacher also has a direct, class email address which is checked once a week for non-urgent messages.

What will the children be learning this half-term?

Poles Apart - This unit studies the Arctic and Antarctic, looking at the physical features of these areas, as well as the climate, wildlife and the environment. This will build upon work from the previous year where children learnt about different weather conditions in relation to the Equator and the North and South poles. We will be looking at where in the world the poles are and making direct comparisons to other countries. The children will develop map-reading skills using maps, atlases and globes. Captain Scott wanted to be the first person to reach the South Pole. We will find out what happened when he went to the coldest place on earth as well as exploring other polar expeditions. The children will progress the following year to learning about earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis and extreme weather.
