Year 5

Welcome to Year 5!

Your Year 5 teachers are Mrs Briggs (5B and Team Leader), Mr Bruce (5B and 5N), Mrs Page (5P) and Miss Noble (5N). Our wonderful teaching assistants are Mr Mpofu, Mrs MacDouall, Miss Ryder and Mrs Grew.

In Year 5, we have developed a learning journey that takes the children travelling back in time to the Victorian era and then explore the journey of chocolate production and its history. We move on to discover early Islamic civilisation and how nations have been united in South Africa. We finally transport the children from London to the Isle of Wight!

Homework for Year 5 will be issued on a Friday with the expectation of completed work to be returned by the following Wednesday.

We hope you will find the information featured on this page useful. However, if you do have any questions, please speak to the class teachers at drop off or home time, or send us an email at

What will the children be learning this half-term?

After learning about the wonders of the Golden Islamic Age and the significance of early Baghdad (thank you for all the wonderful Islamic creations), our children are now transported to South Africa to learn about the Apartheid, segregation and the significant historical people that influenced change. Year 5 will also be able to make direct comparisons with their own life.

Our research into South African history starts with a recreation of the Apartheid (based on eye colour) and will be completed with an opportunity for all Year 5 children to learn a South African dance which the children will really enjoy.
