Seesaw - Sharing and Learning Platform

At Chase Bridge, we use an online platform called Seesaw to further strengthen the learning partnership between home and school. Every Year 1 to Year 6 child receives a unique log-in which allows them access to their own private learning space. Here, teachers will set meaningful home-learning opportunities, send helpful announcements to both children and parents, and share achievements, successes and highlights from the term. We like to think of it as an extension of the classroom - a place where parents can see and interact with their child’s learning journey!

Seesaw is both child-friendly and easy to use, as well as provides a creative and engaging space for learning to thrive. Children can demonstrate their learning in a number of ways with ease, from videos, to annotated images, drawings, audio voiceovers and much more.

At Chase Bridge, Seesaw is used to:

  • set weekly learning tasks for children in Years 1 - 6 that focus on reinforcing learning from the week, extending learning further, and/or previewing upcoming learning
  • build a very special record of the children’s learning journey in Reception and Nursery
  • enhance the learning at school
  • provide helpful announcements/reminders to families and children
  • inform families of the weekly learning and how they can support
  • send our half-termly curriculum booklets
  • celebrate awards and achievements
  • share our topic ‘stunning starts’ and the children’s ‘proudest pieces’

Access Information

At the beginning of each school year, children are shown how to access their account and reminded of their unique home-learning code. Parents that are registered as primary guardians on the school's Arbor system are then sent an invite to connect to their child’s online classroom; parents who already have a family account automatically have this synced to their child’s new class each academic year. Seesaw can be accessed via desktop or downloadable app.

  1. Seesaw Family, which enables parents to view and comment on work completed by their child and connect with the teacher via the family announcements feature
  2. Seesaw Class, which is used by the children for accessing and completing their homework tasks and receiving messages and feedback from their teacher.

What is Little Wandle?

At Chase Bridge Primary School, we use the Little Wandle systematic synthetic phonics programme for early teaching of reading and writing. Phonics is making connections between the sounds of our spoken words and the letters that are used to write them down. Our phonics teaching follows the cycle of revisit and review, teach, practise and apply. Our aim is to teach children to sound out and blend in order to read words.

Our reading books are Big Cat Phonics for Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised, which are a diverse range of decodable phonics books.

Supporting your child with reading

Although your child will be taught to read at school, you can have a huge impact on their reading journey by continuing their practice at home.

There are two types of reading book that your child may bring home:

1. A reading practice book. This will be at the correct phonic stage for your child. They should be able to read this fluently and independently. This book has been carefully matched to your child’s current reading level. If your child is reading it with little help, please don’t worry that it’s too easy – your child needs to develop fluency and confidence in reading. Listen to them read the book. Remember to give them lots of praise – celebrate their success! If they can’t read a word, read it to them. After they have finished, talk about the book together.

2. A sharing book. Your child will not be able to read this on their own. This book is for you both to read and enjoy together. In order to encourage your child to become a lifelong reader, it is important that they learn to read for pleasure. The sharing book is a book they have chosen for you to enjoy together.

Please remember that you shouldn’t expect your child to read this alone. Read it to or with them. Discuss the pictures, enjoy the story, predict what might happen next, use different voices for the characters, explore the facts in a non-fiction book. The main thing is that you have fun!

Please head to the Little Wandle website to find out more about this phonics and early reading scheme.
