What will the children be learning this half-term?

The Romans - This unit will consider the effects of the invasion and settlement of the Romans on Britain. Placing an emphasis on historical enquiry and the interpretation of evidence will help the children develop an understanding of the lasting legacy left by the Romans in Britain.

By linking the development of map work skills with their historical knowledge, the children will discover where the Romans originated from and why they came to Britain. They will also locate cities that they chose to settle in. The children will have the opportunity to learn about the ‘Romanisation’ of Britain, the Roman city of Londinium and the impact of technology, culture and beliefs, including early Christianity. This will build upon work from the previous year where children learnt about past and present events and the impact this has had on Britain today. They will continue to identify similarities and differences between how settlements lived in the past and how they live today.
