When I was told we were going to Thames Young Mariners, I felt excited about the unknown as I had never done the activities that we were going to do before. On the first day, 5N took the minibus to the centre and began with kayaking and woodland skills.

Kayaking

When I went there, I was surprised by how fun everything was. I liked every activity but the one I enjoyed the most was kayaking. You were able to play games such as: Simon Says, Blue vs Green, jumping off my kayak and many more. The best part about going to Thames Young Mariners was spending time with my friends.

Woodlands

When trying to make a spark, face your flint and steel downwards, but not completely. Also, when trying to light a fire, kneel on one knee so that if something happens, you can hastily get up and away from any fires.

Day 2

Team challenge

The team challenge was a giant obstacle course. At one point, we had to get across wooden poles by stepping on the metal poles that Izzy had put in. My job was to take out the bars and that was difficult because if I fell I would have to start all over again. One of my favourite challenges was when we had to get across a wobbly bridge. I enjoyed it because I felt like I was in an action movie.

Raft building

I love building and I love the water! When we built our rafts, we played a game where we had to throw balls into the other teams’ rafts and we won the race by far!

Day 3

Paddle boarding

I loved all of the activities but there was something special about paddle boarding, something that put it on top. I have always loved being in the water and I am very proud of myself. Thames Young Mariners was as amazing as I thought it would be. I was on cloud  9 when I went and I hope anyone who goes in the future will love it as much as I did.

Orienteering

My favourite activity was orienteering because it was fun trying to find all of the different animals in a group of four. It was exciting trying something that I have not done before. I would definitely recommend it and would like to try it again!
