During World War 2, thousands of children were evacuated to the countryside due to the threat of bombing.
There were many debates whether this should have happened. Some people felt it was the wrong thing to do while others argued it was for the best.
One of the main arguments was that children were safer in the countryside. London was not safe because it was one of the many cities that were being targeted by the German fighter planes. There has already been several bombs dropped on London. Furthermore, many children had the opportunity to have many new experiences such as growing their own vegetables, milking cows, riding horses and living on a farm. They had more space to play in due to the vast green land. They also gained a very caring family.
On the other hand, people did not agree with children being separated from their families. Would you like to be separated from your family? In addition, most evacuees did not stay with a family that were very caring; out of sadness, they would often wet the bed. Brothers and sisters were often separated because some households did not have enough space. Sadly, many children were picked on because of their accents.
In conclusion, while many were frightened by the experience I strongly feel that evacuation was a good idea because it saved thousands of young lives.
